AFC Telford face longer wait on Robbie Booth

AFC Telford United could still be missing Robbie Booth for the Bank Holiday as they await international clearance for the winger to make his league debut.

Booth has had to sit in the stands for last weekend's season opener, a 2-1 home win against Workington, and Tuesday night's 1-1 draw at Boston United.

The 27-year-old last played for Bangor City in the Welsh Premier League, so needs his registration to be released by the Football Association of Wales.

The Scouser impressed in pre-season games and also featured in the Shropshire Senior Cup for the Bucks, so is itching for the chance to build on his progress during the domestic campaign.

Booth may have featured at Boston, too, with Mike Phenix dropped from the starting line-up for the Skrill Conference North fixture. Central midfielder Russell Benjamin filled in out wide.

Telford manager Liam Watson said: "It's becoming a bit of a saga and we are taking it into a busy weekend, we have applied for international clearance.

"It's a bit odd, really, seeing as it's only 20 miles down the road! It's frustrating, to say the least, as he's had a fabulous pre-season.

"He does give you that natural winger that you want, particularly from the bench late on. People might point and say Mike Phenix is a wide player but he's more direct.

"Sometimes you want someone who is going to commit defenders and 'Boothy' is ideal for that. It should be sorted soon, it's no big deal but it is to Robbie and it is to us."

Telford next travel to play Gloucester City at Whaddon Road on Saturday, before hosting Marcus Bignot's Solihull Moors at the New Bucks Head on Bank Holiday Monday.

And Watson will be looking to get midfielder Martyn Jackson, who was left out of the squad that went to Boston, out on loan as soon as the run of the games is over.

The Bucks chief said: "When we get the weekend out of the way, we will be looking to get 'Jacko' out on loan at Northern League level and let him adapt to first-team football.

"I have no doubts about his ability, that's why I gave him a contract. There's a little bit of learning but he will come through it, he's a good player."
