Report of AFC Telford 2 Workington 1
AFC Telford got their Conference North campaign off to a winning start with victory over Workington at the New Bucks Head.
A first-half goal from Neill Byrne was added to by Tony Gray after the break, with Conor Tinnion's swift reply for Workington proving to be just a consolation.
It took just six minutes for Telford to open the scoring on front of their own supporters and it's clear Andy Owens' long throws will become a primary weapon this season.
One such delivery allowed Mike Phenix to head the ball on into the path of central defender Byrne, who nodded downwards and under the leap of goalkeeper Jonathan Mitchell to break the deadlock.

Workington tried their luck from anywhere in search of an equaliser, while Telford captain Simon Grand headed over Wes Baynes' ball into the box from inside his own half.
After the break, Telford extended their lead just six minutes into the second-half and were given a large helping hand by Workington defender Daniel Wordsworth.
Ryan Young's long goal kick fell at head height but Wordsworth completely missed it allowing the ball to fall into the path of Gray on the left, who volleyed low past Mitchell.
But Telford had their lead cut in half just two minutes later as Workington pulled one back and set up a tense finale.
Stephen Hindmarch's corner from the right was helped on by Wordsworth into the path of Tinnion, who slotted under Young.
