AFC Telford boss Liam Watson targeting home comforts
AFC Telford boss Liam Watson today claimed home form will be the key to promotion.
Watson is determined to make sure that the New Bucks Head is a fortress in the forthcoming Skrill North campaign as he eyes a title push over the next nine months.
And he has designed the team's pre-season schedule to help his newly-assembled squad get used to the surroundings so they can hit the ground running when the season gets underway against Workington on August 17.
The Bucks will have played six of their eight pre-season games by then at the New Bucks Head, with West Bromwich Albion set to be the latest visitors this coming Saturday (3pm).
Watson said: "We don't go away from here until we go to Boston United in the league on August 20.
"And at home is where leagues are going to be won and lost. Our home form has got to be right and that is why I have loaded the back end of pre-season with home games to get them used to playing here.
"Whether it's West Brom, whether it's Chester or whoever, we have got to find a way of imposing ourselves on the game here"
Meanwhile, Watson was today continuing his work to bolster his midfield for the new campaign.
Watson had said on Tuesday night that he was hopeful of completing the signing of Mansfield midfielder Godfrey Poku on loan imminently.
The combative 23-year-old has been on Telford's transfer hit-list for much of the summer.
And he was at the New Bucks Head on Tuesday night to watch his potential new team-mates draw 2-2 at home to Chester in their latest pre-season game.
But Watson today said that he was also looking at alternative targets as well.
How the arrival of a new addition would affect the futures of current trialists Nathan Rooney and Martyn Jackson, who also play in central midfield, is unclear.
Telford will complete their pre-season fixtures next Saturday at home to Welsh Premier side Bangor.
Saturday's opponents West Bromwich Albion will visit the New Bucks Head tonight to take on Italian side Genoa (7.30 pm).
Tickets can be bought on the turnstile and they will cost £15 adults and £10 concessions.
