AFC Telford won't fear Kidderminster Harriers
AFC Telford United's newly-assembled team should not be daunted when they play higher-league opposition for the first time in pre-season.
Manager Liam Watson admitted that the visit of Conference National heavyweights Kidderminster Harriers tonight, kicking off at 7.45pm, will provide the Bucks with their sternest test so far.
Harriers, who defeated Telford twice last season, just missed out on automatic promotion to the Football League by two points on the final day of the season.
The Bucks have, so far, successfully come through previous pre-season clashes with Shawbury United, Market Drayton and Conwy Borough.
And Watson believes his current Bucks' side are more greatly equipped to match Steve Burr's highly-rated team than his previous club Southport had been last season.
He said: "It will be a good test to see where we are up to technically. But when I was at Southport we played Kidderminster towards the back end of last season.
"I would say I feel more comfortable going in to face Kidderminster with the squad of players I have got now than I did then.
"Really we should be competing with the likes of Kidderminster and for whatever reason we are not in their league, but our challenge this year is to get into their league."
The Telford boss may well be without both midfielder Sean Clancy and defender Chris Lever for the second consecutive game.
Both players were left out of the side for Saturday's 3-0 victory at Conwy to avoid aggravating minor knocks and Watson will proceed with similar caution this evening.
