AFC Telford kick off season at New Bucks Head

AFC Telford United will kick off their return to the Conference North with an opening day home clash against Workington.

And Bucks assistant boss Dominic Morley wants the revamped side to justify their tag as bookies' favourites for the title.

They will hope to get off to the strongest of starts against the Cumbrians at the New Bucks Head on August 17.

Tricky trips to Boston United (August 20) and Gloucester City (August 24) follow.

The Bucks are aiming to put last season's nightmare relegation campaign – when they chalked up a Conference record winless run of 30 games – quickly behind them.

The arrival of the new management team of Liam Watson and Morley appears to have refreshed the club with 14 new recruits already signed up.

And Morley declared: "Hopefully, we can start well and get points on the board and then the confidence spreads.

"I think there are seven or eight teams you'd fancy for promotion at this stage. There's going to be teams who made the play-offs last year like Brackley.

"Then you have the clubs who have come down into the division and there is always a bit of an unknown."

Last season's Conference North's second and third finishers, Guiseley and Brackley Town, are among most bookmakers' favourites along with demoted Stockport County and Barrow.

Morley added: "Stockport have gone for experienced players so you assume they are going to do well. But no side has a divine right to go up.

"It's the club and not the name you are playing."

Telford travel to Edgeley Park to renew hostilities with County on November 2.

They also have first ever meetings with Brackley on October 12, at the Northamptonshire outfit's St James Park, and Oxford City, on February 8.

Bucks fans will be able to rekindle memories of their 2011 promotion-clincher with Guiseley on February 1.

Tasty derbies with Staffordshire rivals Hednesford Town, managed by ex-Telford boss Rob Smith, also loom large on the fixture list, on Boxing Day (away) and New Year's Day (home).
