AFC Telford No 1 has eyes on Hednesford reunion

AFC Telford United goalkeeper Ryan Young will be on the lookout for one match in particular when the Conference North fixtures are released tomorrow.

Young, who was made vice-captain last week, is looking forward to the Shropshire-Staffordshire derbies against his former club Hednesford Town.

The popular shot-stopper, who is approaching his seventh season with the Bucks, joined his current team after a successful stint with the Pitmen, in which he won the FA Trophy in 2004.

And he has fond memories of the partisan atmosphere generated at the teams' last competitive meetings, which both took place over the Christmas period of the 2006-07 season.

On those occasions, the teams battled to a 0-0 draw at the New Bucks Head on Boxing Day, 2006, before Telford edged the return fixture 1-0 on New Years Day.

Young said: "I always remember playing against Telford over Christmas week. I think we had almost 4,000 people at Keys Park and even more at Telford for those games.

"It should be a good occasion when we play Hednesford this season and, hopefully, we get them over Christmas again. It will be a big game and that is what you are in it for."
