Flexibility an added bonus in AFC Telford squad
AFC Telford manager Liam Watson insists that flexibility within his newly-assembled squad will help them overcome injury problems in the forthcoming season.
The Bucks boss, who is currently working to bolster his midfield options, is close to completing his pre-season recruitment drive.
Watson has been closing in on the capture of three midfielders this week. And he says that should all three deals be completed, they would likely be the last new arrivals at the New Bucks Head before pre-season.
Watson has signed 14 first team players so far, with the three potential new arrivals set to raise that number to 17.
A new deal for out-of-contract midfielder Phil Trainer also remains on the table.
Numbers are likely to be swelled by youth team players and trialists in pre-season, with Watson set to cast an eye over a number of each during friendlies and training sessions.
But he has stated that he wants to run this year with a small, tight-knit squad of about 20 players. Watson will also have the option of bringing players in on loan during the season.
Asked whether the squad would be big enough to cope with a spate of injuries, he said: "A lot of our players are adaptable and can play in different positions. There is massive flexibility in the squad."
Recent signing Chris Lever and striker Andy Owens are just two cases in point. Lever is comfortable playing anywhere across the back four while Owens also has experience playing as a defender.
Wingers Sean Cooke and Mike Phenix can also play up front.
Meanwhile, AFC Telford's New Bucks Head will host the latest in a series of fundraising comedy nights on July 13.
The event, which will feature four comedians, will start at 8pm in the Simmonds Transport Learning Centre.
