AFC Telford seal signing of striker Andy Owens
AFC Telford United manager Liam Watson has captured former Mansfield striker Andy Owens.
And the delighted boss is convinced that his latest acquisition has the potential to net up to 20 goals a season.
Owens signed for the Bucks last night on a one-year deal, becoming the third centre-forward to join the club since Watson's arrival last month.
Owens began his career as a defender and he has represented England C in the back four and midfield.
Watson believes his versatility will be an asset to the team, but he was adamant that he has been brought in as an attacker.
He said: "I wanted him to come in as a centre-forward and he wants to be a centre-forward. He has been capped for England at left-back and left midfield.
"He started out as a centre-half, but I am convinced he is a 15 to 20 goal a season striker."
Owens took to Twitter to announce his delight at the completion of the deal.
He hinted that he shares Watson's aim of promotion back to non-league's top flight at the first time of asking.
Owens tweeted: "Looking forward to playing for AFC Telford next season #Promotion."
The move reunites Owens, 23, with his former boss. The player made 22 appearances for Watson's previous club Southport on loan from Mansfield last season, scoring five times.
He also spent a permanent spell at Haig Avenue in 2011-12, playing 39 times and scoring six goals.
The Liverpudlian, a former Liverpool youth team player, began his senior career at Stoke City in 2006.
