Alex Meechan close to leaving AFC Telford

AFC Telford striker Alex Meechan says he is close to leaving the club to take up a coaching position at non-league rivals Barrow.

Meechan was brought in as Telford player-assistant boss to caretaker manager John Psaras for the last nine games of the season.

Meechan, who has had two spells at Telford in his career, has spoken of his desire to remain there for next season as the last campaign drew to an end.

But he said he has not heard anything from the club about a new deal and the chance to become Dave Bayliss' No 2 at Holker Street would be a great opportunity.

Meechan said: "I have verbally agreed to join Barrow. I would be reluctant to leave Telford. I love the club. Everybody knows that but I haven't heard anything since the end of the season."
