Ryan Young: The right boss can revive Telford

AFC Telford United goalkeeper Ryan Young has backed the club to get the right manager in to turn their fortunes around.

But he has warned that the club have no right to expect to be promoted next season, regardless of who is at the helm.

The Bucks, who were relegated from the Blue Square Premier last month, are expected to name their next permanent manager tomorrow at the club's end-of-season presentation evening.

The club's track record with managerial appointments is a strong one, with all three of their previous recruits in Bernard McNally, Rob Smith and Andy Sinton winning promotion during their times at the helm.

But Young, who expects the Bucks to be playing in Blue Square North next season, warns that the non-league's second tier will have improved since they were last involved two years ago.

Asked about the forthcoming season, he said: "It is a new beginning. The most important thing now is to get the right man but it may take a season of consolidation to get us back up.

"If we do go up it will be through hard work and getting the right people in. The club will make the right decision manager-wise and we will look forward.

"But it is not going to be easy. I just think the league will have only got stronger since we have been out of it.

"There are good teams in that division and there were always good teams when we were playing in it."

The Football Conference is set to meet this month to decided which teams will be placed in Blue Square Bet North and South for the next season.=

But Young is already looking ahead to one potential fixture with some relish.

Telford's Midlands neighbours Hednesford Town remain firmly in the promotion hunt in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League.

They will go into their final game of the regular season against AFC Fylde on Saturday still in with a shout of automatic promotion and a play-off place secured should they miss out.
