John Psaras hails AFC Telford for battling draw
AFC Telford manager John Psaras hailed his side's resilience as they overcame an injury crisis to take an unlikely point at promotion contenders Forest Green Rovers.
The Bucks, whose relegation from Blue Square Premier was confirmed on Saturday, went into yesterday's game missing several players due to injury.
Psaras had to field three defenders out of position as a result of injuries to Simon Ford (hamstring) and Ryan Valentine (groin) while a recurrence of a calf injury in the warm-up ruled striker Steve Jones out.
The goalless draw at the New Lawn stretched basement side Telford's winless run in the league to 29 games.
But the spirited defensive display pleased Psaras, who had called for his side to close out a disappointing season by showing some pride and dignity.
He said: "It was a resilient performance. It almost feels like a victory after last weekend's game against Nuneaton.
"I talked before the game about playing with a bit of pride and dignity to finish the season off and they certainly did that yesterday.
"They needed to roll their sleeves up and yesterday they did that and put in a great defensive performance."
