Blog: AFC Telford torture may be prolonged
Wanting to draw a line under this season has just become more difficult for AFC Telford, writes blogger Rob Hughes.
News breaking that the season may yet be extended by a week to help out the sides that have been unable to fulfil their fixture lists, being allowed extra game time.
Now perhaps if we had great cup runs and not looked after our pitch to the best of our ability, we may have benefited from an extension.
But as it is, the season just seems likely to be drawn out even longer, when so many of us really want this season to be put behind us.
As well as consigning it to the 'to be forgotten' bin, we also want to turn our focus of attention to next season and the challenges that lie ahead.
Speculation about the new chairman, the management team, player retained lists, kit suppliers, season tickets and match by match pricing.
That's just some of the different forms of speculation that can be found on Social Media sites and unofficial forums. Speculation that shows many of our supporters are focussed on the future.
Now I have to hope that we are going to start hearing about some of these, hopefully sooner rather than later.
I guess the fear about releasing certain types of information at this time of year may have a negative impact.
But, also, in some ways it will also rally the troops somewhat, showing us to be the forward thinking community club we aspire to be.
With the Andy Sinton, Mark Cooper, Graham Hyde and John Psaras merry-go round during February and early March, I can't help but feel we took our eye off the ball a little bit.
We missed an opportunity with Early Bird season tickets, you might argue that we had pressing matters that we were having to get our head around.
But we were still in a precarious position and needed to try and generate some interest for next season.
Whether that was with the incentive of possible top-flight football in non-league at a bargain price or furnishing our new manager with a fighting fund for next season, it could have worked.
The latter still stands with Mission Impossible seemingly just that – impossible. Our Premier status looking to expire temporarily - I hope - come what May.
A decent offer hitting the headlines now would certainly give us a positive, almost unique selling point, attracting potential candidates for the managerial vacancy.
"Oh and by the way, it's only May and we have already sold 250 season tickets!"
Some clubs at Blue Square North and South level cab only dream of attracting attendances of 250, let alone having that number in 'up front' interest.
Another way of stimulating a bit of added interest would be getting our different kit options out there.
That would let the fans have a look at the brands, what they are offering and perhaps even having a poll during the last couple of home games of the season.
The return of this 'added voice' could impact positively on sales come the club Open Day as soon as that is made known.
Moving away from squad numbers perhaps loses some replica shirt revenue, although the player turnover we have seen the past couple of seasons might just make a straight forward replica kit the way to go.
Let's see where we go now as we rally round together and despite needing to try and break that winless streak.
Let's try and refocus on the medium to long term to ensure our club remains where it belongs, at the heart of a very passionate community.
Come on Telford!
