AFC Telford thwarted in move for Elliot Turner

AFC Telford United caretaker boss John Psaras has been thwarted in his bid to sign former Shrewsbury youngster Elliot Turner.

Psaras was hopeful of including the 18-year-old midfielder in his plans for tomorrow's trip to Woking, but registration problems prevented the Bucks from pushing a deal through.

Dudley-born Turner, who captained Shrewsbury's youth team last term, joined Blue Square Premier rivals Tamworth after leaving the Greenhous Meadow at the turn of the year.

But despite scoring in an FA Trophy tie at Gainsborough Trinity in January, he only made a handful of appearances for the Lambs.

"He would have fitted the bill as he has a good attitude and work rate. But unfortunately the registration problems prevented us doing it," said the AFC Telford manager.

Psaras has now switched his attentions to brokering a loan deal for another midfield youngster, who is on the fringes of the squad of a Football League side.

But he plans on waiting to see how his new charges peform against the Cards tomorrow and at Macclesfield on Tuesday night.

"I'll stick with the team I've got at the moment, but if we don't do well tomorrow or Tuesday then I will bring in some young players."

Psaras' first game in charge saw the Bucks stop the rot of three consecutive defeats as they fought out a draw against Gateshead.

However, their winless run extends to 24 games and AP Leamington's unenviable record of 26 games without a win the 1981-82 Alliance Premier League campaign is looming.
