John Psaras wants to bring cheer to AFC Telford fans

AFC Telford's latest caretaker boss John Psaras admitted the team must give their fans something to cheer ahead of a pivotal home clash with Gateshead.

The newly-appointed Bucks chief will tonight take charge of his first game since being appointed caretaker manager following Graham Hyde's resignation in the wake of the 2-0 weekend defeat to Macclesfield.

Psaras is hopeful that the fans will get behind him for the end of season run-in, which starts with tonight's Blue Square Premier basement battle.

But he added that the team must also give the supporters, who were critical during Saturday's loss, something to shout about.

He said: "We need as much support as we can possibly get but we have to do our bit on the field to get their support,"he said.

"The supporters pay their money and they can do what they want. Our players have to realise that it is their actions on the pitch that determine what reaction they get from the fans.

"I would like their support but I also realise that we have to earn it."

Psaras added that he will send his team out to attack tonight as they hunt a first league win in 24 matches.

Results last night have left Telford nine points adrift at the foot of the table while Gateshead are now only three points above the drop zone.

Victory for Telford would give them a huge lift in their battle against the drop but Psaras said he will be concentrating on his side's own strengths rather than the oppositions.

He said: "We have played Gateshead last year and this year, we did well up there earlier in the season.

"I know they are a good side but I am more concerned about what my players are going to do.

"We are aware of what Gateshead can do, we have got a report on them, we know about them but I just want my players to concentrate on their own jobs."

Telford will be without Richard Davies, who is still sidelined with a foot injury, and Jay Smith, who has a niggling knee injury but Psaras should have a full squad to choose from otherwise.
