John Psaras: I am the right man for Telford

New AFC Telford manager John Psaras today insisted he is the right man to help restore morale within the dressing room following his appointment as interim boss.

Psaras has been handed the reins, becoming the struggling club's fourth manager in less than six weeks, after previous caretaker boss Graham Hyde resigned yesterday.

Bucks chairman Lee Carter said Hyde had departed for a number of reasons but added that there had been ongoing problems within the dressing room that undermined morale.

Psaras also said confidence among the players was very low as a result of their dismal 23-match run without a league win – a sequence which has left them seven points adrift of safety in the Blue Square Premier.

But asked if he could help resolve those issues he said: "Absolutely. I have been here for three years in the background.

"My role has been being the buffer between players and the manager so it is not much different to me (being manager now).

"When you have not won for 23 games confidence is very low and it doesn't take a lot to upset the changing room.

"But if we weren't on such a bad run it wouldn't be such a problem. It is something we have to address, making the players believe in themselves.

"It's important that the remaining nine games are played with a certain passion and spirit."

Former Bucks striker and current Colwyn Bay player Alex Meechan was today drafted in to support Psaras and will form part of the interim management team, along with senior players Ryan Young and Phil Trainer.

Chairman Lee Carter said: "Alex, like a lot of former players, is hurting like mad about our current predicament and was on the phone to JP to offer his help.

"We'd like to thank the Colwyn Bay chairman for allowing Alex to come down and assist. Alex is a great character who is itching to get in and amongst the dressing room."
