AFC Telford close to deal for Grimsby's Simon Ford
AFC Telford United were today close to completing the loan signing of defender Simon Ford from fellow Blue Square Premier club Grimsby Town.
Paperwork to finalise the deal had not been completed but Bucks chairman Lee Carter said he was hopeful of wrapping up the move shortly.
He said: "It is not a done deal. We are waiting for the paperwork to be completed."
Bucks manager Mark Cooper had made it known he was in the market for an experienced defender.
And he had been confident of adding a new stopper this week in time for Saturday's Blue Square Premier trip to Mansfield Town.
Ford, who began his second spell at the Mariners in the summer, certainly meets Cooper's desire for an experienced head to bolster his youthful back line.
Aside from two spells at Grimsby, he has had stints with Charlton Athletic, Bristol Rovers, Redbridge, Kilmarnock and Chesterfield in a 13-year senior career.
He has played more than 270 competitive games in that time as well as earning three international caps for Jamaica.
But the 31-year-old has yet to feature for Grimsby this season after slipping down the pecking order at Blundell Park.
