No nostalgia at Tamworth for AFC Telford boss

AFC Telford United manager Mark Cooper insists there will be no room for nostalgia when he leads his relegation-threatened team out against former club Tamworth.

Cooper spent five years at the Lambs, including three years as a manager, between 2002 and 2007.

But the 44-year old, who has also managed at Kettering, Darlington and Peterborough, will only be focusing on taking a much-needed three points at the New Bucks Head tomorrow.

Asked how he would feel about taking on his former club, he said: "It is just another game.

"Tamworth is a lovely little club but I don't care who we are playing against. We just want to win."

Cooper's history with the opposition is just one of several similar stories going into this fixture.

Three current Bucks players have previously plied their trade at Tamworth, while the same number of Lambs have previously represented the Bucks.

Right-sided Telford man Luke Hubbins spent a brief period on loan at Tamworth last season before joining Telford, while central midfielders Phil Trainer and Jay Smith have also played for the club.

On the opposite side, strikers Darren Byfield and Kyle Perry - the latter currently on loan from Nuneaton - have both worn the white of Telford.

Both did so earlier this season, Perry on loan while Byfield spent just under four months at the New Bucks Head.

Lambs defender Duane Courtney also played for Telford back in 2004-05 before his strong form earned him a move to Burnley for a Bucks' club-record fee of £27,000.
