Mark Cooper: It's time for heroes at AFC Telford
AFC Telford boss Mark Cooper has urged his side to seize the moment when they face fellow strugglers Hyde at the New Bucks Head.
The Bucks will go into the game tonight looking for a much-needed victory to fire them out of the Blue Square Bet Premier League relegation zone. Should they do so, it would be their first win in 19 league games.
But Hyde will come to Shropshire on the back of their own unenviable run, having picked up just one point from five games in 2013 so far.
They will start the game just four points clear of the Bucks, who currently sit fourth from bottom, albeit with three games in hand. The match will be followed on Saturday by another crucial home game against faltering Tamworth, who are only six points clear of the drop zone, and Cooper has said these are the types of games that will determine the Bucks' season.
He said: "Our season is not going to be determined by games against the likes of (league leaders) Grimsby.
"It is going to be determined by Hyde tonight, Tamworth on Saturday and they are the games that we have got to be looking to take maximum points from.
"There is no way we will look at it and say it's a 'gimme'. We know we will have to work really hard to beat Hyde because they are the best team I have seen live this season.
"On their day they can play some fantastic football so we have got to make sure that we are big and strong and organised and we carry a goal threat as well."
Telford could hand home debuts to all four of Cooper's recent new signings this evening.
Winger Bagasan Graham, midfielder Charlie Henry and defender Karlton Watson all arrived on loan last week from Cheltenham Town, Macclesfield and Leicester City respectively while free agent Ian Craney signed a deal until the end of the season.
All four were in the squad for Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Grimsby.
Meanwhile, former Telford goalkeeper Joe Collister, aged 21, has signed for Blue Square North outfit Altrincham.
Collister was released last week as interim manager Cooper sought to free up cash to bring in new signings.
