AFC Telford boss pleased with his new recruits

AFC Telford United manager Mark Cooper praised the impact of his four new recruits following his team's 1-0 defeat at Blue Square Premier leaders Grimsby.

Cooper blooded three new signings – Ian Craney, Bagasan Graham and Karlton Watson – from the start against the Mariners with another – Charlie Henry – coming off the substitutes' bench in the second-half.

They could not halt Telford's winless run in the league, which was stretched to 18 games following Saturday's narrow 1-0 defeat at Blundell Park.

But the Bucks chief was pleased with the performances of all four new players, and he believes they will help Telford 'hurt' the opposition more in future games.

"I think we got the best players (we can) for the money we had got available last week," he said.

"I think they will be of value for us.

"I thought the winger (Graham) carried the ball forward for us at times and looked a threat. I thought Charlie Henry looked a threat when he came on and I thought the young centre-back Watson was outstanding.

"Craney looked a threat on goal and if he had a couple more games under his belt he could probably have scored.

"I am confident that with the players we have got in we will start to hurt teams.

"I thought they all at times did well and I thought we frustrated Grimsby at times."

He added that he was targeting one more signing to bolster his team for the run-in to the end of the season.

Asked if that would be a striker he added: "We decided to get some pace into the wide areas, which we have done, and get Craney in and around Jake Reid because we know he can score goals.

"Strikers that are going to score goals cost a lot of money so we have to be realistic and try to get the best value we can for the money we have got available."

Meanwhile, Bucks striker James Spray made a goal-scoring debut for Evo-Stik Southern Premier League side Stourbridge on Saturday.

The former Wolves man, who has joined the Glassboys on a month's loan, grabbed the opening goal in Stourbridge's 1-1 draw away at Chesham United.
