Richard Peniket hopes to break duck with Telford

AFC Telford United loanee Richard Peniket would love to grab his first ever senior goal while wearing a Bucks shirt.

And there would be no better time for the Fulham loanee to score it than away at league leaders Grimsby tomorrow.

Peniket, who was previous boss Andy Sinton's last signing for the club before his departure, is a member of the Cottagers' Under-21 development squad.

But he has been sent out on loan three times in the last 16 months to get some first-team experience in the lower leagues.

The 19-year old has enjoyed his time at first Hereford United and then Kidderminster Harriers, before joining Telford last week on a one-month loan.

But he is still searching for his first senior goal and he is hoping to end that wait while with the Bucks.

The Wales under-21 international has featured as a second-half substitute in Telford's last two games and is confident he can get that elusive strike if given the right service.

"My main aim is to play games and do as well as I can for Telford to try to help them get the points to stay up," he said.

"But it would be great to get my first goal. It is not just down to me, but I feel that if I get the service I will score goals."

If that happens tomorrow it could well write his name into club folklore, much as Kieron St Aimie's was when he grabbed a memorable winner at fellow title contenders Luton Town earlier in the season.

As they were that day at Kenilworth Road, relegation-threatened Telford are heavy underdogs with the bookies to topple the mighty Mariners this weekend.

The Bucks will be chasing their first league win in 18 attempts against a side they have never beaten in their eight-year history.

But Peniket is unlikely to be over-awed by the occasion, having already played 11 times for the Harriers this season.

One of those games included a 68-minute run- out against Grimsby in a 0-0 draw at Aggborough in September .

He also made a late substitute appearance in the Harriers' 4-2 FA Cup fourth qualifying round victory at Blundell Park in October.

Peniket admitted that the demands of first-team football have been a world away from his experiences playing youth-team games, but he has relished the challenge and believes it will benefit him greatly in the future.

He said: "I need games and minutes under my belt. I started a few games for Kidderminster and that was good experience for me."

Peniket is likely to have to come off the bench to add to his minutes on the pitch as Cooper has very few injury concerns.

Michael Briscoe (back) and Richard Davies (foot) are both ruled out but Cooper should otherwise have a full squad to choose from, with the possibility of new additions to boot.

Ian Craney, who joined the Bucks on Tuesday, could be in line for his debut. Grimsby Town are also free of injury worries for the weekend.
