Will Salmon looking to be the hero for AFC Telford
AFC Telford United defender Will Salmon does not have to look far for inspiration going into the clash at Kidderminster Harriers.
His best friend, Luton Town striker Scott Rendell enjoyed a 'Roy of the Rovers' moment on Saturday scoring the winning goal as the Blue Square Bet Premier outfit knocked Premier League side Norwich out of the FA Cup.
And while Telford find themselves only 16 places, rather than the four divisions, below their opponents tonight, that cup shock underlines one important aspect about football that should not be forgotten.
"It proves that anybody can beat anybody on their day," said the former Ebbsfleet right-back.
And it is wins that Telford are now desperate for, having endured a miserable run of 15 league matches without one which has seen them slip into the relegation zone.
Harriers will unquestionably be the favourites to grab the points tonight, having won 10 of their last 12 league games.
Steve Burr's side will start the game occupying fifth place in the division, albeit having played more games than most of their immediate rivals.
Salmon admitted Kidderminster are the 'form team' in the division but he is adamant that he and his team-mates have got what it takes to upset the form book.
"They are the form team, they are higher than us in the league and we know they have got good players but so have we," he said.
"I don't think we have been too down in the dumps over the course of the last 15 games and we haven't really been taken apart by anyone.
"We have made silly mistakes and we haven't taken our chances which has been the crucial factor.
"We will need to be at our very best to get a result, but if everyone prepares well we can get something from the game."
The lack of goals for Telford in recent weeks has been a major concern and with the recent departure of striker Kieron St Aimie, Telford now have just three recognised forwards within their ranks, in Steve Jones, James Spray and Jake Reid.
But manager Andy Sinton is closing in on a number of new signings, including a centre forward, and Salmon believes that this could also give the team a lift.
The side will also go into the game on the back of a 10-day stretch without a match, due to Macclesfield's involvement in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday.
And Salmon said the squad is now itching to get back into action.
"We are looking forward to the challenge. We have had more than a week to train without a game, we're all fresh and we are ready to kick on with the season," he said.
The Bucks will be without injured midfielder Richard Davies (foot) and former Harriers defender Michael Briscoe (back).
Midfielder Jay Smith is still working his way back to fitness from an abductor injury which has kept him out of Sinton's matchday squad for virtually the whole season so far.
Left-back Ryan Valentine, though, is expected to have recovered from a groin injury.
Harriers, who will also be playing their first game in 10 days following the postponement of Saturday's home match against Woking, will also able to name an unchanged side from the one which lost 1-0 to Macclesfield a week last Saturday.
Midfielder Keith Briggs was withdrawn with a knee injury but is expected to be fit.
