Nathan Rooney wants goals for AFC Telford
AFC Telford United midfielder Nathan Rooney insists the team will find their scoring touch – and he is determined to help spark a much-needed goal rush.
The Bucks slipped back into the relegation zone after they drew 0-0 at home for the second time in five days against Alfreton on Saturday.
A second-half onslaught, in which Rooney hit the crossbar, could not prevent Telford's winless run in the league stretching to 15 games.
But the former Wolves reserve team captain insists that the goals will start to flow and he is aiming to chip in with at least five more before the end of the season.
Rooney, who has five goals for the season, said: "We were desperate to get that first goal on Saturday and we had four or five chances.
"It's so difficult to put the ball in the net at the moment but, when it comes, I think they will come in abundance.
"We need to be a bit more clinical up top and if we can do that, no problem we will stay up.
"I should have had one on Saturday but we have got 17 games left and if I can chip in with another five, I will be happy.
"Hopefully, that five will add more points to the team and help keep us up."
Meanwhile, Telford manager Andy Sinton has hailed the 'magnificent' efforts of around 50 fans and staff who cleared more than 1,000 tonnes of snow from the pitch on Saturday morning to get the game on.
Sinton, who is suffering from a chest infection, said: "It would have been easy to call the game off, but it was a magnificent effort by the 50-60 people who turned up at 8am to cart snow off.
"I was at the doctors on Friday and I shouldn't have been at the game but, when I heard what 60 people had done to get the game on, I got out of my sick-bed and led my troops.
"And the players and the coaching staff have tried to repay that spirit."
Meanwhile, Telford midfielder Richard Davies will have a scan today to determine how well his foot injury is healing.
Davies suffered a chipped bone in the 2-2 draw at Stockport last month and was expected to be out until March.
