Boss admits AFC Telford are not good enough
AFC Telford United boss Andy Sinton has warned supporters to be careful what they wish for after a 3-2 defeat at Braintree – but admitted his side are not good enough to stay up.
Sinton admitted that he was under pressure following the loss, which kept the Bucks in the Blue Square Premier relegation zone and extended their winless run in the league to 13 games.
The manager acknowledged that some fans were calling for his head but he said he could still turn the season around. And he warned that him leaving the club was not necessarily the answer.
He said: "The longer it goes, I will be under more pressure but all I can say is I'm doing my best. If other people decide my best is not good enough that is for other people.
"I won't walk away. I'm a fighter. I will get it right and I'm convinced we will stay up. I'm sure there's a lot of people calling for my head – I would just say be careful what you wish for.
"It might not be quite understood fully until I leave the club what a good job I have done."
Sinton also added that his current team was not good enough to stay in the division but that he was working hard to add the extra quality needed and was close to bringing in a defender.
Asked if the team was good enough to avoid the drop, he said: "I would have to say no, because we are 13 games without a win.
"But the writing has been on the wall, even when we were seventh or eighth. I have been saying we need freshening up, I have been saying we are down to the bare bones but we will keep battling away.
"We need some leadership qualities as well as a sprinkling of youth, enthusiasm and desire. I'm close to pressing a button on bringing in a leader.
"But the lad wants to wait for another couple of days until he gets something else sorted out, not in football terms, something else off the field sorted out."
