Andy Sinton spolit for choice over skipper for AFC Telford
AFC Telford manager Andy Sinton has praised the leadership qualities within his injury-plagued squad as they prepare for their latest battle against Mansfield on Saturday.
Midfielder Phil Trainer was given the captain's armband for the weekend's thrilling 3-3 draw at Cambridge United with skipper Chris Blackburn still ruled out with a back injury.
In doing so he became the club's 22nd captain in a competitive game since its formation in 2004.
But Sinton admitted he had been spoilt for choice and several other candidates could also have led the team out.
"There's plenty I could have quite easily given it to," he said.
"Ryan Young captained us during pre-season, Will Salmon came into the equation, Kris Taylor has been a skipper before, Liam Chilvers has been a skipper but with it being his first game he probably didn't know the lads.
"He'd had an hour's training with them before the game so I thought Phil, he's right in there in the middle of the action and knows the way I operate over the last couple of years.
"You can read too much into the captaincy but we have got some leaders and Phil did a decent job in there for us against Cambridge."
