Andy Sinton admits AFC Telford miss wing wizard
AFC Telford United boss Andy Sinton has admitted his team has missed the impact of injured winger Luke Hubbins in their last two performances.
Hubbins has been one of the stand out performers from their first six games but he was unable to play in either of the Bucks' last two matches, away at Nuneaton and at home to Lincoln City, after injuring his hamstring.
The former Birmingham winger suffered the injury ten days ago during the warm-up at Nuneaton and has been working with the physio this week in a bid to help speed us his recovery.
Hubbins was initially expected to be out for about two weeks and it is not yet known if he will be able to play any part in Saturday's trip to Cambridge United.
And Sinton today admitted that the player's absence has been felt by the team.
He said: "I know what Luke can bring the team.
"I thought we went to Southport two weeks ago and played really well, got a terrific win but Luke wasn't quite at his best.
"But, when he is on the pitch, defenders are terrified.
"Even if he is not at his best, he still offers a threat so we have lost that a little bit."
Hubbins is one of several Telford players to have been blighted by injuries in recent weeks.
Strikers Chris Sharp (hernia) and Jake Reid (hamstring) and defender Chris Blackburn (back) were all on the sidelines prior to Telford's last game.
To make matters worse, fellow stoppers Michael Briscoe and Ryan Valentine (both back) also picked up knocks on Saturday.
Both of the latter had to be substituted part way through the Lincoln game, forcing Sinton to play right-back Will Salmon at centre-half and midfielders Kris Taylor and Jon Brown as full-backs in a shuffled back four.
Sinton said: "We had a midfield player or a winger playing at full back, a midfield player playing as a left-back.
"We have got our right-back playing as a centre-back and we have got Jordan Rose, who has just joined the club, in the back four.
"So all credit to them because, in the second-half, with that back four they didn't cause us too many problems. They caused us more problems in the first-half."
