Darren Byfield back with AFC Telford goal pledge
New AFC Telford United striker Darren Byfield has warned Blue Square Bet Premier League defences he will soon be back in the goal-scoring groove after completing his first full match in two years.
Byfield, who made his Telford debut on Saturday against Lincoln two days after completing his move to the New Bucks Head, had previously been plagued by a groin injury which saw him miss virtually all of last season.
At one point he feared retirement may be the only option, but following a series of injections he is now injury-free and is quickly working his way back to peak form.
And he is confident it will not be long before his name is on the scoresheets in non-league's top flight.
He said: "Saturday was my first 90 minutes in two years so I know I'm going to get better and stronger and quicker and get some goals."
"I had been injured for the whole of last season.
"I thought that if I keep working and strengthening it will be okay but it just kept getting worse.
"I kept trying to come back, had a couple of operations and injections and nothing happened.
"In the end they told me I had to rest it so I didn't play last season until the last month. However, it was still hurting me and I felt I might have to retire from it.
"But I saw a surgeon who injected it three times and now I'm back and I don't feel it at all.
"It's brilliant to be preparing on Saturday at 3 o'clock for a match whereas for most of last season I didn't have that.
"I just think after a few games I will be where I want to be.
"A couple more 90 minutes and I know it won't take long for me to get back into the groove and start scoring goals."
