AFC Telford release Danny Carey-Bertram

AFC Telford United striker Danny Carey-Bertram has been released - as manager Andy Sinton rewards his promotion heroes.

While Sinton has taken up the option of an extra year's contract for virtually all squad, Carey-Bertram is on the hunt for a new club.

The 27-year-old was the Bucks leading scorer in the 2008-9 campaign when he found the net more than 21 times.

But he has struggled to make an impression on the starting line-up during an injury plagued season which included a loan spell at Hednesford.

"Danny has got good potential but has had a lot of injuries this season, not least the latest one which kept him out from February until the final game," said Sinton.

"He moves on but we wish him well for the future."

The vast majority of the Bucks promotion-winning squad are committed for another year, with Sinton expecting to hold meetings with defender Stuart Whitehead and strike duo Alex Meechan and James Lawrie to tie down the formalities on renewing their terms later this week.

The Bucks boss hasn't taken up the option on forward Steve Abbott but he, along with non-contracted players including Levi Reid, Phillip John and Courtney Pitt, will be invited back in pre-season to try and earn a deal.

"We have given 90 per cent of the squad who have done great for us the chance to step up to the next level" added Sinton.

"I won't let sentiment get in the way of the club progressing but I said six or seven weeks ago that they would get the chance if we were promoted."

Sinton will now step up his search for fresh blood and plans meeting with potential signings over the next few weeks.
