Play-off hero Liam Murray has made his last appearance for AFC Telford United — and is emigrating to start a new life in Australia.

The 25-year-old scored the crucial 79th minute equaliser that set the Bucks on course for a 3-2 victory over Guiseley on Sunday and promotion to the top flight of non-League football.

But assistant manager Darren Read today revealed that the centre-back, who also works as an architect, would be moving Down Under this summer to start a new job with one of his former directors.

"Everything was confirmed just after Christmas but we didn't want any distractions," said Read.

"Liam kept it to himself, though a few of the boys know already.

"One of his old directors had already moved to Australia and set up a business. He's made Liam an offer he can't refuse so he's moving out there with his fiancée.

Fantastic

"It's sad news for us but he signed off at Telford on Sunday with a great farewell present — what a fantastic finish it was for him to score such an important goal."

Read and boss Andy Sinton have already drawn up a list of players they will be looking to approach as they step up their plans for next season's campaign in the Blue Square Bet Premier.

A new centre-half is now high on the list of priorities, with Read admitting that Murray will be hard to replace.

"He's a fantastic character and will be sadly missed," said Sinton's No 2. "He's a real leader, he's a spokesperson for the players.

"He was one of the first names that I mentioned to the gaffer when we came here last summer and I knew he was worth a shot — there are not many better at this level.

"He's great with the boys and has won plenty of admirers in the Telford fanbase. We wish him well."
