AFC Telford United today sealed a double transfer coup — snapping up Congo international Yannick Salem and beating rivals Alfreton to former Hereford forward Danny Williams.

Striker Salem, 27, was recommended to Telford boss Andy Sinton by ex-Shrewsbury chief Paul Simpson, who was his manager at Stockport County at the start of the season.

Williams, aged 30, has turned out for Chesterfield and Hereford at League level and has most recently been playing in Belgium for Royal Racing Football Club Montegnée.

Both new faces are set to play some part in Sunday's special game between a Telford Legends side and a PFA XI made up of former Premier League greats.

French-born Salem has also played for clubs in Belgium, France, Holland and Germany and has three caps for the Congo.

Sinton said: "He looked very sharp and quick in training last night and gives us competition for places.

"We've got a verbal agreement to sign him until the end of the season and we're just checking the paperwork to make sure we don't need any international clearance.

"He's been living in London but he's keen to make a go of it with us and has already sorted himself out a flat locally."

Sinton added that Williams had joined the club on similar terms.

He said: "Danny has also verbally agreed to stay until the end of the season and we just need to sort the international clearance as he's come from a pro club in Belgium.

"He can play wide or up front and gives us something different.

"Alfreton were after him, along with a number of other clubs, and he comes with a good pedigree.

"It's up to both of them to prove their worth," added Sinton.

"They give us back-up if anyone's form dips or if we pick up injuries but there are no guarantees."

l AFC Telford's youth team have bowed out of the Midland Floodlit Youth League Cup.

The young Bucks went out to Stourbridge, losing 3-1 on penalties after a 2-2 draw.
