Goalkeeper Ryan Young is ready to put pen to paper on an extended contract at AFC Telford United - after holding boss Andy Sinton to a summer promise.

Young, 31, has kept six clean sheets in his last eight games and 14 in total from 25 games ahead of this afternoon's FA Trophy clash at home to Eastwood.

That consistent form has made him one of the first names on the team sheet - and the former Hednesford and Kettering man is eager to stay as long as the club wants him.

"It was part of the conversation when I signed a new contract in the summer that I asked Andy, if I was doing well, if I could come and see him at Christmas time about extending it," said Young.

"He was fine about that and I had a little word recently. Everyone seemed happy so, sooner rather than later, we should be sitting down to sort it out.

"I think the gaffer's happy. He tells you when you've done well but he won't over-praise you.

"I never rest on my laurels anyway, I just want to keep doing my job consistently."

Meanwhile, Young is happy for Telford to be sitting third in the Blue Square Bet North at the halfway stage of their league campaign.

Alfreton continue to set the pace at the top but the keeper is content for the Bucks to maintain their challenge from under the radar.

"I prefer to be in the chasing pack," he said. "You're always there to be knocked off your pedestal when you're No 1.

"It's up to Alfreton to keep up their momentum.

"If they go for the rest of the season winning games like they are now then fair play to them, they will have deserved it.

"But as long as we can stay on their coat-tails then going into the last month and a half it really is anybody's."
