Turns out all David Moyes needed to keep his job as West Ham manager was win the club’s first trophy for 43 years.
“If he wants to remain as manager then he will remain as manager,” said chairman David Sullivan yesterday, drawing a line under months of speculation which, more than once, appeared to have Moyes on the brink of an exit during an underwhelming Premier League season where the Hammers flirted with the relegation places.
All of that is forgotten now, of course, after Moyes became the first British manager since Sir Alex Ferguson to win a European title.
