Wrockwardine Wood eye Summit top five
Wrockwardine Wood have their sights on a top-five finish despite losing to a strong but lower-placed Willenhall Nordley B in the Summit Garage Bowls League.
Wood, who are sixth in Feeder A, went down by 15 chalks in their 5-3 defeat to eighth-placed Nordley.
Their winners were captain Martin Williams, who earned the most valuable player award for his 21-10 success over Steve Corbett.
Angela Gaut, who won to 11 against Steve Bodley, and Martin Gaut, who beat Roy Joinson to 19. Williams said: "We're trying to finish in the top five.
"We're not going to be able to compete with the top two or three because of the strength of their squads."
Nordley's A team are in the Premier League and Williams believes their side was bolstered by a few first-teamers.
The skipper said: "We were satisfied to get three winners because they had a number of first-team players."
Wood are hoping for immediate revenge with Nordley at home next to kick off a tough run with second-placed Dudley Dell and Moseley lying third to follow, both away from home.
He said: "We'd expect to score well there which is important because we have some tough fixtures coming up. It will be hard for us to pick up points in both of them."
In Feeder B, Hadley United Services were beaten 8-2 (152-115) by leaders Penn.
Robert Fuller was Hadley's pick, beating Mark Crook to 16 while Jamie King was their other victor, beating Rob Burroughs to 10.
Sir John Bayley strolled to a 9-1 romp at home to Kings Norton in Division Two. Will Plant was named most valuable player after thrashing Daniel Baller 21-4.
Craig Baugh, John Potter, Ben Hudson, Michael Cooper, Bob Plant and Paul Reeves all romped home.
In the Premier, Castlefields' game at Chadsmoor A has been moved to tonight but no result was filed for St Georges' game at Greville.
