Bylet Bowling Club's future in the Shropshire Premier Bowling League is in serious doubt, it emerged today.

The Bridgnorth-club have been hit by a sudden exodus of players and will hold an urgent meeting on Thursday night to consider their future in the county's premiere bowls division.

Friday night's season opener with Bowring has already been postponed and the club could quit the league entirely if the situation does not rapidly improve.

Club secretary Tom McGill admitted they are not certain whether they have the playing resources to field a competitive side.

"We are unsure whether we are going to compete in the Premier League this year," he said.

"We've probably had five or six players leave the club and we have other players who for different reasons are not able to play immediately and that makes life very difficult for us.

"We've got to decide whether we can do ourselves justice."

McGill revealed the club had already made contact with the Mid-Shropshire League to discuss the prospect of switching across.
