Shropshire bowlers delayed after the big freeze
One of Shropshire's biggest leagues has taken the unprecedented step of postponing the start of its season – scheduled for next week – due to the bad weather.
First fixtures in the Peter Morris Cars Mid Shropshire Senior Citizens League were due to be played on Wednesday, but now teams in the four divisions will have to wait a further week before the action starts.
The decision was made at a league committee meeting on Tuesday morning and, explained fixtures secretary Frank Booth: "It's due to this unforeseen weather we are having. The season will now start on Wednesday, April 10, with week two matches and will continue in the same order as the fixture list."
With regards to week one matches, due to have been played on April 3, each team will arrange with their opponents when this fixture will be played – with a cut-off date of May 31.
League secretary John Ford added: "All clubs will be notified of this decision, which has been taken due to the prolonged adverse weather. It's also been made for the benefit of the players and, of course, all the greenkeepers to enable them to prepare their greens."
