Struggle for Alex Edwards as GB lose to Ireland
Shropshire amateur jockey Alex Edwards was out of luck for Great Britain as Ireland posted a first win in the Bicester Office Park Anglo-Irish Point-to-Point Challenge at Kingston Blount in Oxfordshire.
The 27-year-old rider, from Cressage, pulled up on both his mounts as the visitors ended Britain’s four-year winning streak in the annual jockeys’ competition with an 81-43 victory on points.
Having drawn 25-1 outsider Chute Hall in the Goffs Anglo-Irish Club Members Conditions Race, he was unable to land a blow as Irish 11-time champion Derek O’Connor triumphed on 20-1 shot Hunters Lodge. And it was a similar story on 10-1 shot Running In Socks in the Tattersalls Ireland Anglo-Irish Four, Five And Six-Year-Olds Maiden with his mount running out of steam behind dual Irish champion Jamie Codd on 6-4 favourite Ka Maresco.
Ireland also won the two ladies’ races to complete an emphatic victory.
