Mike Caddick on the county bowls beat
Retired policeman Mike Caddick is the new president of the Shropshire association – but his deputy is a late substitute.
Caddick was, as expected, unveiled as the nomination of the Tanners Shropshire League at the county AGM at a packed Bagley BC in Shrewsbury.
But his No.2 for this year will be Jamie Brookes on behalf of the Market Drayton League after the Wem League withdrew their nomination of two-time former county president Isobel Jones.
County chairman Barry Jennings, who is also chairman of the Wem League, explained: "It is with apologies from the Wem League but they have had to decline the position of deputy president as the person to be put forward did not have the right criteria."
That was a reference to a rule in the county by-laws that states any president must have been an active member of their nominating league's executive committee for a minimum of three years prior to election.
Caddick, the former Pontesbury policeman, thanked the Tanners league, adding: "I love the game. I thoroughly enjoyed the last 12 months as deputy and I will do my very best for Shropshire."
