Bagnall is the top man in a family affair
Motocross racer Paul Bagnall brushed off competition from his own family to take the top rider award in the latest Bridgnorth Motocross Club event – picking up a new trophy named in honour of his parents along the way.
Paul fought his way to three second places to win overall second in his class with 162 points during races in Aston Eyre, near Bridgnorth.
His performance was good enough to secure the Nita & Bill Bagnall Shield, which is awarded for the day's expert rider.
Paul, contesting in the over-40s veteran class, also claimed the Graham Gatt Trophy as top scoring Bridgnorth clubman of the day.
The ground soaked up the wet overnight leaving good track conditions for a day of fast and furious racing.
The improved weather saw an extra 50 competitors sign up on the day to race the fast track, which can see top riders reach maximum speeds on some of the long straights.
Lewis and Luke, grandsons of Nita and Bill Bagnall, enjoyed three long battles in the MX2 class.
Lewis went on to finish the round with 139 points, just two points ahead of his sibling, but it was not quite good enough to claim over all prize from his uncle, Paul.
Senior rider Anthony Burgess also rode hard on the heels of Paul in all three of the veteran's MX1 races.
His trio of third-placed finishes earned him third spot overall and the SB&SMX Cup, awarded to the club's top senior rider.
Josh Mantle, with consistent top 10 finishes in the MX2 junior series, won the Spartan Trophy as top scoring junior.
