Bridgnorth Rowing Club duo Ted Kett and Jamie Manning claimed their second triumph in a row at the Stourport Regatta.

The crew, who were competing in the elite coxless pairs, had won at the previous regatta in Bewdley a few weeks ago.

And they extended their winning streak by defeating two teams from Ross-on-Wye.

They comfortably came through their semi-final and then swept aside the opposition with similar ease in the final.

They will now be aiming to make it three wins from three when they head to the Ross-on-Wye Regatta which will be held over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

It was an event of mixed results overall for Bridgnorth. Kett and Manning began with a narrow defeat to Worcester in the 1100m downstream course on the River Severn.

The second day of the regatta saw Bridgnorth crews compete over a shortened 650 metre sprint course.

First up was the veteran B double scull of Alan Champion and Daz Breakwell, who lost out to the veteran C double from Worcester.

Alan then teamed up with his wife Caroline and they competed in the mixed veteran D double sculls, where they came up against a crew from Upton, who emerged victorious.

Next up for the club was the intermediate three double scull of Stuart Round and Niale Cleobury.

They swept aside Stourport to move into the semi-finals where they lost to Cardiff and Vale, albeit by just two feet.

The veteran D coxed four of Richard Holt, Tim Grimsdale, Rob Graham and Paul Wallis, coxed by Sarah Graham, lost by the same margin to Hereford in another close race.

The women's intermediate three coxed four of Claire Taylor, Caroline Champion, Jennifer Williams and Nicola Rushin – coxed by Lucy Wycherley – faced a local derby against a crew from Pengwern Boat Club in Shrewsbury.

Pengwern went off the start line the cleanest and pulled into an early lead, only for Bridgnorth to pull back and push ahead.

As both crews entered the last 50 meters they were neck-and-neck with the bows overlapping with each stroke, but Pengwern finished ahead by a mere one foot margin.

The men's intermediate two status quad of Dale Bunning, Daz Breakwell, Ted Kett and Stu Round – took on Cardiff and Vale.

The crews went off the start side by side, until one of the Bridgnorth members lost control of an oar letting Cardiff and Vale open up a decisive lead.
