Record numbers for Musgrove 5km race
A record field of 282 runners took part in the Vic Musgrove 5km road race in Telford Town Park.
Organised by Telford Athletic Club as the fifth race in the Up and Running Sexarathon Series, it beat the previous record set in 211 with 268 finishers.
The race, named after the late Vic Musgrove, a Telford AC stalwart who was a team manager, coach and race organiser who lived in nearby Hollinswood, saw Liam Roberts from Tipton Harriers, who also won in 2013, take a close race in 15mins 8secs.
He was one second clear of Martin Williams, who was third in the previous Sexarathon race at Ironbridge. Stuart Hawkes of Kidderminster-based club Amazing Feet was third in 15:22, with the current Sexarathon Series race leader Jon Bowie, of Mercia, fourth in 15:27.
Tom Holden of Tipton was fifth and Paul Jones, another Mercia runner from Oswestry, was sixth and the first over-45 in 16:12.
Claire Martin, from Telford AC, unbeaten in the Sexarathon Series this year, continued her winning ways finishing in 17:17 with team-mate Sarah Mackness second in 17:34. Michelle Clarke gave the host club a clean sweep as she finished third in 18:11. Jackie Halford, a former Sexarathon champion from Wolverhampton & Bilston, took fourth in 18:50.
Team-mate Lucy Cambridge was just three seconds behind, while Emma Phillips from Birchfield was sixth in 19:05.
