The 32-player field was finalised and the draw made last night with Hankey, third seed Waites, Dave Chisnall and Michael Smith paired together in Group H.

The tournament starts on Saturday night with Hankey qualifying through his exploits in the BDO, where Waites is the reigning title holder.

Hankey took the BDO's top honour in 2009 and reached the semi-finals last year, before controversially defecting to the PDC.

Telford cohort Steve Farmer, Newport duo Ian and David Pallett and Market Drayton's Darren Whittingham all failed to sneak into the Grand Slam.

They competed in the wildcard qualifiers at the Robin Park Centre in Wigan yesterday with Farmer beaten 4-0 in the first round by Michael Barnard.

Ian Pallett lost 4-1 to Mark Hylton, while David Pallett defeated Bernd Roith 4-3 before being whitewashed by Justin Pipe.

Whittingham beat Kevin McUlley 4-0 before losing 4-2 to Jim Walker. Pipe, Peter Wright, Vincent van der Voort and Stuart Kellett took the four spots.
