TELFORD summer signing Tom Roberts is itching for a taste of first-team action after being granted international clearance.

The former The New Saints defender joined Andy Sinton's side early last month but has been unable to make his competitive bow for the club until clearance was received.

Sinton said that obstacle has now been removed and Roberts is keen to get some game time in the non-league's top flight.

Roberts can play either as a full-back or on the wing but he accepts he will have a battle on his hands to claim a place in the Buck's starting line-up. But he is prepared to bide his time and will continue to train hard in preparation for his big chance.

"It's been pretty frustrating not being able to play," he said. "Clearance has come through so I should be alright to play now.

"I think the quality of players is really good here. There's a strong squad throughout so there's competition for everyone.

"I think I've just got to keep training well and try and do my best to make an impression so I get a chance to play in the team."

Roberts has gained experience in the Welsh Premier League but he believes that playing in the Blue Square Premier League will present a greater challenge.

He said: "I think this is a harder league to play in. The quality is better. It's an exciting league to play in."

Roberts added that there was a good team spirit in the camp and he backed his team-mates to get back to winning ways quickly following Tuesday's 3-1 defeat at Nuneaton.

"The feeling of losing will make everyone come out strong," he added.
