Long-term injury absentee Sean Evans is stepping up his bid to resurrect his AFC Telford United career targeting a February return to training.

The 23-year-old suffered an horrific broken leg during the Bucks' pre-season friendly with Wolves in the summer.

But he is now back working in the gym to improve his overall fitness — and hopes to get the all-clear to start running early in 2011.

That will be a major landmark for the former Shrewsbury and Manchester United youngster, who was initially told he would never play again in the hours after the injury occurred.

"I'll hopefully get the all-clear from the doctor in February and start running then," said Evans. "Then it's all about kicking a ball and getting myself strong and fit.

"If all goes to plan I should be ready by the end of the season but it's a long, slow process."

Ludlow-based Evans is grateful to Telford for paying his gym membership in his home town, allowing him to step up his rehabilitation.

But he has been unable to work since suffering the break and admits financial worries have dogged his mind. "We're coming up to Christmas time now and with no money it's not very nice," he added.

"I'm living at home with my mum and dad and that's a big plus — I'd have lost my house if I was paying a mortgage or renting."

* Telford's trip to Blyth Spartans — postponed last Saturday due to snow — will now go ahead on Tuesday, January 18.
