McCarthy's men return to action after the two-week international break looking to extend their solid start which has seen them topple Stoke and draw against Everton and Newcastle in bruising encounters.
The Molineux chief believes his side can continue their impressive form at Fulham tomorrow as they kick off back-to-back trips to London with Tottenham to follow.
"When we played there last season we were in a different position, scrapping for points to make sure we stayed in the league," said the boss. We still want points. If we come back with a point from Fulham I'll be delighted with it.
"But if you ask me will we be setting up to sit back and defend, that won't be the case. I don't see any reason why we shouldn't feel we can get points anywhere.
"We had it last season when our away record was good and we'd like to maintain that. We're new into the season, but maybe playing with a bit more ambition, both of us.
"Our fans expect us to stay up - and rightly so based on what they saw last season and how we've started this season."
Deadline loan signing Marcus Bent is in the squad for the first time.
