AFC Telford United boss Andy Sinton is running the rule over two young goalkeepers as he looks to find a rival for No 1 Ryan Young.

Former Shrewsbury youngster Dave Maguire, 19, who last season appeared in the Welsh Premier for Newtown and Welshpool, is training with the Bucks.

And Daniel Platt, also 19, and who has just been released by Crewe Alexandra, is also being given a chance to impress the Telford management.

Sinton is eager to sign up a second goalkeeper so that Ryan Young is given some competition for his place in the starting line-up.

"That will do Ryan the world of good because he might see himself as No 1 but I want someone who will push him," said Sinton.

"I believe he's as good as there is in the league when he's at it. Two years ago he was that, but last year he was a bit inconsistent.

"Maybe bringing someone else in and working with them will push him that little bit extra.

Persuade

"I want people breathing down his neck."

Meanwhile, Sinton is also hoping to persuade striker Alex Meechan to sign on the dotted line.

The 30-year-old hitman has been training with the Bucks, but is also weighing up an alternative offer from another club.

"Alex has looked very sharp," said Sinton. "He's obviously got a good pedigree and a good goalscoring record.

"I know he's got an offer on the table somewhere else, but credit to the lad because he wants to give Telford a go.

"I'll be sitting down with Alex and at least making some kind of offer - whether he says yes or no is up to him."
