Former Shrewsbury Town ace Edwards suffered the injury in the victory over Tottenham and followed team-mates Michael Kightly and Andy Keogh into the operating room with similar problems.

Boss Mick McCarthy is hopeful that both Edwards and Kightly will be able to return to action soon.

Edwards said: "I had the surgery a couple of weeks ago and it's all coming along well as far as I'm aware.

"It was obviously disappointing to get injured especially over the Christmas period when there were some good games.

"But there's nothing I can do about it - it was just one of those freak accidents.

"Looking back I'm lucky that it wasn't a lot worse, and if there's a positive at least it wasn't my knee which would have caused far more problems.

"It came at a particularly bad time because I'd had a run in the team for maybe 10 or 11 games which was great.

"It's always disappointing to be injured but it did come at a bad time for me personally."

Edwards has now started cardio vascular work and is aiming to be available by the end of January.

"Hopefully I'll then come back stronger when I return," he added.
