The former Shrewsbury Town ace fell awkwardly and twisted his ankle 59 minutes into Saturday's 1-0 win at White Hart Lane.
Edwards's injury was being assessed today but he is the third Wolves' player in two weeks to suffer a serious ankle surgery after Michael Kightly and Andy Keogh.
The 23-year-old hobbled off and soon had a heavy ice pack strapped to his leg.
Boss Mick McCarthy said: "Losing Dave is another big blow for us.
"Dave has always been available. He is very versatile and has done very well this season. He has done everything we have asked.
"Losing three players so quickly is a problem we could have done without."
Keogh rocked his ankle in training last Thursday and underwent surgery over the weekend, while Kightly's operation was a week last Friday after he injured himself in the 1-0 defeat against Birmingham on November 29.
Meanwhile, McCarthy warned Wolves can't afford to carry any passengers after his side made it back to back top flight wins for the first time since December 1983.
"There were no passengers on the pitch - if we have one weak link in our chain, we're knackered, and we didn't," he said.
"Everyone has to be right at it for every game."
McCarthy was highly impressed with all his players, but captain Karl Henry and goalscorer Kevin Doyle came in for special praise.
"Karl was great in the middle - he does what it says on the tin and he's fantastic, outstanding - his workrate is unbelievable," he said.
"Doyle has been terrific. We know he can score in the Premier League but his workrate is also something else.
"He's a very selfless striker and Sylvan was a more than willing accomplice. They had to do a lot of work away from the goal."
McCarthy also praised Wolves' sell-out 3,000-strong following, adding: "The fans were magnificent and the players were magnificent throughout the - what was it - 96 minutes?
"When we play well we get the benefit from them getting behind us but the support has been fabulous all season."
