That loss came against professional snooker player Tom Ford, who defeated former world champion Ken Doherty at the Malta Cup in 2005.
This year's tournament will also see world snooker championship finalist Mark Selby make an appearance, as he looks to retain the crown he won last year.
But despite the presence of some high-profile snooker stars, Reynolds is hopeful of reaching the quarter-finals, which will be televised on Sky Sports.
He said: "As always, I expect to do well, but last year, I didn't do too well. I reached the last 32 last and lost to Tom Ford, who is a snooker professional.
"But I didn't play very well in that match and I didn't really give myself a chance. This year I want to go one better and get to the televised stages."
The 37-year-old Ketley cueman made his debut in the competition in 1995. His best result was a spot in the quarter-finals in 1997 and he starts this year's competition against Australian Ricky Lee on Wednesday.
In addition to the singles, he will also be competing in the World Masters and team event for Wales.
"I'm not intimidated - I love it," he added.
"We have the team, the singles and the masters there as well."
Reynolds, who practices at Minnesota Fats in Oakengates, added: "I am really looking forward to it and have been putting in a lot of practice, as I always do."
