Kevin McIntyre has vowed to fight back from injury to play a part in Shrewsbury Town's promotion push before the end of the season.

The 31-year-old is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a double fracture of the fibula in the 1-1 draw in the League Two local derby at Port Vale a fortnight ago.

Initial fears were McIntyre would be ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.

But an encouraging bulletin from the specialist and healthy progress in the early rehabilitation has convinced McIntyre he can return before May.

"I'm fully confident I will play again this season and I will be disappointed if I don't," said the former Macclesfield midfielder."But at the same time, I have to be sensible about it and not get carried away.

"It is frustrating but the only bonus is that, in my mind, I will still back back to play a part in the rest of the season.

"Otherwise, I would have gone into a bit of depression."

McIntyre has revealed he has been able to return to very light training.

"It's still a bit sore but I'm managing to do a bit of bike work and some weights," he added.

"I'm made up because it's good to be around the lads. It's feeling okay and it's nice to be able to do bits and bobs.

"I was worried in case it needed pinning because when I first saw the x-ray, in my eyes it looked like it would.

"I might have thought differently, but realistically that would have been it for the season if it had needed pinning.

"But the specialist knows best. He has seen it and is quite happy. I've got to go back in four weeks and we will take it from there."

Town were entertaining high-flying Brentford today.
