Hurst backs Town for play-offs
Glynn Hurst has admitted he may have left behind one of League Two's success stories of the season after backing Shrewsbury Town to reach a play-off place.
The 30-year-old forward this week brought the curtain down on a 10-month Town career - which has seen him net three times in 15 starts - by sealing a permanent move to Bury.
And Hurst believes staying with his now former club could have seen him involved in a promotion push later in the campaign.
"The whole thing has been a bit strange but it's done and dusted now so things can settle down," he said.
"There is a bit of disappointment because I fancy Shrewsbury to be up there fighting and I would like to have been involved in that.
"With the quality they have got in the dressing room I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if they were in the top seven or even higher than that.
"Even with the results they've had, I think they should be in the top seven now.
"I wish the directors, management, players and fans every success and hope they fulfil their dreams - and I really mean that.
"But I have moved onto a new challenge now and that's to help Bury move up the table as quickly as possible."
Hurst will be best remembered for his winning goal against rivals Wrexham in the Border derby in January.
But he insisted the Shrewsbury faithful didn't see his best during what has proved a short stint at the Meadow.
"I suppose that's the case with three goals in 15 games but when I joined we were in need of points and Gary (Peters) decided to play a different formation," he added.
"It worked because we climbed the table but it meant we were asked to do different jobs for the team rather than focus on scoring goals.
"I think the move is in the best interests of everybody and Gary has already said he wants to put Michael Symes on a longer contract which is fully deserved because he has done well.
"He puts a lot of emphasis on youth and that's something I totally understand and haven't got a problem with."
