This week's pictures from the past
Our weekly round-up of the Shropshire Star's nostalgia pictures.
Here's another photo from Terry Heskey, of Church Aston, taken at Sankey's stadium in Hadley. The football ground, which used to be one of the best in Shropshire, is currently being redeveloped as housing.
It shows a Sankey's team line-up. He said: "I was the physio. It was perhaps the late 1960s. The gentleman back, second from left, was the manager of Carrefour, John Squires. I'm standing on the far right."
Actually, if Mr Squires was manager of Carrefour at the time the photo was taken, it must be a little later than Terry thinks, as the pioneering Telford hypermarket did not open until 1973.
Cheers! Come in and join some of the regulars in the bar of the Black Swan pub at Jackfield.
This picture was e-mailed in by our regular contributor Paul France, who says: "I think it was taken in the early 1950s. From the left are Tommy Cleobury, don't know, Ken Evans (standing with pint), Jack Clay, don't know, Jacky Harrison (the village baker), don't know, Joe Maiden (or Ned Shaw?), Teddy Gregson, Arthur Madden and Norman Miles. Seated are, right, Tom Green (level crossing keeper), and Tom's brother."
According to the description on this postcard, this depicts "Morton Hall, Salop".
It is probably the Morton which is close to Llynclys. The view is undated, but is likely to be from around 100 years ago. It was in an album of postcards loaned to us by Mrs Diana Humphreys, of Maesbrook.
We're going back to the early years of the 20th century for this view of "Church Schools, Knockin."
It would have been schools, in the plural, because back in those days there would have been separate schools for boys and girls within the building. As for the date, we'll guess it's from around 1905.
This is another postcard loaned to us by Mrs Diana Humphreys of Maesbrook, near Oswestry.
